He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Nettie Medley, and his brothers, James A. Medley and Billy Ray Atchley. A former resident of Madison and Lincoln counties, he spent his retirement years with his wife, Gail, in Leesburg, Florida, where he resided until his passing.

A proud American, Buddy dutifully served his country in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves.

He was a man of great faith. He loved God and was proud to be a Christian. He walked out his faith both inside and outside the Church. Whether it was bestowing sage wisdom and guidance to leaders, feeding hungry souls at men’s fellowship breakfasts, donating time and resources for building improvements or wearing various other hats in outreach ministry, Buddy served his church and community well. A man of compassion, he handed out second chances to those who needed them, deserved or not. He was a peacemaker with a kind and tender heart. His ways were firm but always fair.

There was nothing Buddy cherished more on this earth than his family. He was a wonderful provider and worked with an unrivaled work ethic to afford them every opportunity possible. He always believed in and expected the best of his children and grandchildren and taught them the benefits of a job done well. He valued time spent together and fervently pursued these relationships. It was vitally important to him that each member of his family knew that they were loved and that they could depend on him. He never relented in giving all he could for them.

Buddy was passionate about building and never tired of wanting to take on a project. With over 30 years in real estate and construction, he helped many families across the Tennessee Valley find or build a home and was renown for the care and quality of craftsmanship he offered. From concept to completion, he was committed to bringing vision to life.

A loyal University of Alabama football fan, he cheered on the Crimson Tide with family and friends at many stateside games and multiple bowl games. Also an avid golfer, Buddy was on a course every chance he got. He loved golf and cultivated many relationships on the green.

Buddy was a man of humble beginnings who overcame an arduous childhood, and he worked diligently to craft a legacy that will be treasured by all those who held him dear.
