Bruce Mullins

Bruce Mullins, age 88, died peacefully at his home in Dora, AL on August 14, 2023.  He was born July 11, 1935 to Clayton Lonzo Mullins and Arah Berry Mullins.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Beatrice (Bea) Garrigan, Frances Hallman, Bennie Barnett, and Dee Lester Mills, and brother Melvin Mullins.  He is survived by two sisters, Melinda Sillivan (Bobby) of Sumiton and Sarah Montieth of Trussville and a brother Lacy Mullins (Jean) of Jasper and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He graduated from Walker County High School in 1953 and played basketball and football.  He served two years in the United States Army, he worked for 40 years in the warehousing industry mostly in Chicago, Illinois.

Upon retirement, he moved back to Walker County and spent the last two decades of his life rekindling his relationship with family and childhood friends including the late Lola Deason.  Lola and Bruce enjoyed spending time together, especially attending the University of Alabama football games.

He was a life long member of the Catholic Church and attended churches in Illinois and Alabama (St. Cecilia in Jasper and St. Patrick in Adamsville).

The family extends our heartfelt gratitude to his dedicated caretakers Donna Payne, Ashley Payne and Pam Rhodes who provided unwavering support, compassion and care during his final years of life.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 25, 2023 at 10:00 AM followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM at Collins-Burke Funeral Home, 303 Oakhill Road, Jasper, AL 35504.  Afterwards, a family graveside service will be held at Mount Zion Community Cemetery, across from the Mount Zion Baptist Church, 115 Mount Zion Road, Jasper, AL 35503.  Services will be officiated by Reverend Patrick Benson.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Mount Zion Baptist Church.
