Funeral service for Bruce Gargus Newton, age 69, of Russellville, will be 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Parkway Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Benjamin Burt officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service. Interment will be in Midway Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Newton, who passed away at home, following his battle with liver disease, was born May 21, 1955, in Washington DC to Gordon Quincy Newton and Doris Wayne Gargus Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Jessie Leon Roden; mother-in-law, Lillie Pearl Sparks Roden; four brothers-in-law, Jimmy, Barry, and Buddy Roden, and Boyce Harville; two sisters-in-law, Paulette Roden and Melanie Harville; great-granddaughter, Oaklynn Rose Newton; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. He graduated from Russellville High School in 1973. Bruce met Rose Roden, in 1975, and they were married on June 24, 1976. Bruce spent 26 years in military service, of which 13 years were U.S. Army active duty, and 13 years in the Army National Guard.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rose Ann Roden Newton; his son, Christopher Bruce Newton (Amanda); and his daughter, Jessie Lynn Newton Davis (Brian Matthew Davis); four grandsons, Mason Newton (Meagan), Braden Newton (Kaidin), Kilan Newton (Destiny), and Weston Davis (Ana); two granddaughters, Clara Lynn Davis Howell (Hogan) and Abigail Bell (Jackson); great-grandchildren, Levi, Nate, Oliver, and Josie Kay Newton, and Kaylee and Raelynn Bell; his brother, Robert Wayne Newton, of Homewood AL; two brothers-in-law, Don Roden (Marina) and Melvin Roden; a host of nephews, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his little dog, Riley.
The family would like to express their special thanks to Alabama Hospice of the Shoals, and especially nurse, Amanda.
