Bruce Cresswell Brownlee – Obituary

Bruce Cresswell Brownlee 65, of Roanoke died Sunday, April 21, 2019, at Tanner East Alabama Medical Center in Wedowee from a sudden illness.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 25, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Roanoke, immediately followed by an 11 a.m. memorial service with the Rev. Chris Martin officiating.

Bruce was born in Greenville, S.C., on Jan. 9, 1954, and grew up in Decatur, Ala. After graduating from Auburn University, he started his own company, The Agency Advantage, and had a successful career in software development. Bruce enjoyed many hobbies, especially building and flying radio controlled airplane,s and was an active member of Cheaha Radio Control Club. Also an avid HAM radio operator, he was a member of Randolph County Emergency Radio Club. Bruce learned the love of these hobbies as a teenager from his father. He also enjoyed spending time on the water at Lake Martin with family and friends. Bruce was a member of Roanoke First United Methodist Church and the Men’s Bible class.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Susan Neighbors Brownlee; daughter, Laurel Brownlee Roberts (Darryl) of Columbus, Ga.; mother, Betty Harrell Brownlee of Decatur; sister, Amanda Brownlee Rice (John) of Madison; and nephews, Daniel Patrick Rice and Jonathan Lawrence Rice. Bruce was preceded in death by his father, John Lawrence Brownlee, and younger brother, John Harrell Brownlee.
