ATHENS – Hundreds of people gathered in downtown Athens, Alabama, on May 21, 2021, to watch ARCY, a renowned street artist, paint a tribute board of Athens native and Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Brittany Howard.
Howard made a surprise appearance to join her family and friends to watch the board come to life.
Athens Main Street Executive Director Tere Richardson was thrilled with how the art turned out.
“Studies show art and music soothes the soul and that was apparent Friday evening,” said Richardson. “The applause from the crowd when Brittany signed her tribute board emphasizes how much this means to our community.”
The tribute board will be displayed in Merchants Alley once construction is complete in July. AMBL Studios sponsored this installation for Merchants Alley. The alley will connect a public parking lot to Jefferson Street and serve as a gathering place and public art gallery for the community. The theme is Athens Amplified, with an emphasis on music.
