ATHENS-This year the Athens Mayor’s Youth Commission started a new program called Senior Buddies. The Youth Commissioners adopted seniors who regularly attend the Athens Activity Center and send them notes, goody bags, etc.
Youth Commissioner Alondra Salgado of Athens High School adopted Paul Irons. She wrote him a note and he wrote to her on the back of her note that his wife and one child have passed away and he lives alone. Paul, a retired firefighter, said he would love for Alondra to visit and play dominoes. Alondra had some free time on Wednesday, and spent part of the morning with Paul doing what he loves!
Thank you to Martin and Hubbs for sponsoring this program that bridges the gap between our youth and senior citizens.
