In Loving Memory of Brian David Ellingson
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Brian David Ellingson, a devoted husband, loving father, treasured friend, and above all, an extraordinary soul who left us far too soon at the tender age of 38. Brian’s journey on this earth came to an untimely end, but his memory will forever shine brightly in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on May 7, 1985, in Rockledge, Florida, Brian’s life was a testament to the love he had for his family, especially his beloved son, Oliver. He was a doting father who cherished every moment spent with his young son, imparting his wisdom, sharing his laughter, and nurturing a love for adventure that will undoubtedly be a part of Oliver’s legacy.
Brian’s zest for life was exemplified by his passions. He was a scuba diver and free diver, finding solace and exhilaration in the depths of the ocean, where he explored a world few dare to venture. His love for the underwater world was matched only by his love for the digital realm, as he was known to be an avid gamer who found joy in virtual worlds and camaraderie with fellow gamers, even creating several fun video games. Brian’s quick wit and charm added a special sparkle to his interactions, endearing him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In addition to his love for the sea and video games, Brian possessed an insatiable curiosity for the tangible world. He was a tinkerer and builder, constantly working on projects, whether it be creating something new or improving upon existing designs. His hands, skilled and nimble, could craft wonders from the simplest of materials, a testament to his innate ingenuity. Brian’s talents extended to building furniture, gadgets, projectors, computers, and toys, all of which he lovingly created for his family, leaving behind a legacy of his craftsmanship and boundless love.
Brian’s intellectual prowess was evident in his academic achievements. He earned a Master’s Degree from Georgia Tech, a reflection of his dedication and brilliance in the field of software engineering. He dedicated many years of his career as a software engineer to the University of Alabama in Huntsville. His work was not just a profession but a passion, and his contributions will continue to impact the industry for years to come.
Beyond his accomplishments, Brian was a man of integrity, kindness, and unwavering love. His warm smile and gentle demeanor touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.
Brian David Ellingson leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, and endless curiosity. He was preceded in death by his father, Geoffrey Dale Ellingson and his brother, Geoffrey Dale Ellingson, Jr. He will be forever remembered by his wife, Casey, his son Oliver, his mother, Billie Matlow, three siblings Steve Ellingson (Krista), Samuel Ellingson, and Sally Ellingson, nephews Darian Mick (Hannah), Preston Ellingson, and Winston Ellingson, nieces Brittany Perez (Brandon) and Kyla Reid, loving in-laws Dale, Cyndi, and Ally Young, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Brian fought a brave and valiant battle against Glioblastoma for nearly two years, displaying unwavering courage and strength throughout his journey and treatments at both Vanderbilt University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His resilience in the face of adversity was an inspiration to all who knew him.
A celebration of Brian’s life will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Hampton Cove Funeral Home. The family will begin receiving visitors at 2:00 PM, followed by the service at 3:00 PM, where we will gather to remember and honor this remarkable man who brightened our lives with his presence. There will be an additional celebration of life to follow at a later date in his hometown in Florida, where loved ones can further commemorate Brian’s legacy. Though he may be gone from our sight, Brian’s memory will live on in our hearts, where his love and spirit will forever remain.
Rest in peace Brian, and may you find eternal calm as you did in the depths of the ocean you loved so dearly. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
