Brenda Russell Syx, 1950-2023. On January 14, 2023, she entered the gates of Heaven.
Brenda was a retired employee of the Jefferson County Board of Education after 32 years as a Paraprofessional at the Burkett Center for multi-handicapped children. She loved teaching her little children in Sunday school and singing in the church choir. She also enjoyed planting flowers and working in her yard.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Ronald Syx; son, Randall Scott Syx; parents, Alvin and Irene Russell; brother, Jimmy Russell; sister, Nancy Russell; granddaughter, Wendy Norris; great grandson, Wyatt Cornelius; father-in-law, Erskine Syx, Jr. and mother-in-law, Jewel Wright Syx.
She is survived by her daughter, Tracy Syx Norris (Scotty); granddaughter, Brittany Norris Cornelius (Ryan); grandson, Hunter Norris (Amanda); granddaughter, Karissa Syx; grandson, Kolton Syx; great grandson, Houston Cornelius; great granddaughter, Rylee Cornelius; sisters, Carol Johnson (Bob), Donna Cole (James) and Pat Reno; brothers, David Russell (Kathy), Gary Russell (Sandy) and Jerry Russell; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be Tuesday Jan. 17, 23 at 2:00 pm in the New Horizon Memorial Chapel. Rev. Steven Moore will officiate. Burial will follow at Good Hope Baptist Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday from 12:30-2 pm.
