Brenda Lou Gilliam Wells Brenda Lou Gilliam Wells, 74, retired 3rd grade teacher for Spring Hill Elementary, died Friday, October 22, 2021 at her residence in Columbia.

 

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Jim Deason officiating. Burial will follow in Neapolis Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Monday from 11:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.

 

Born February 28, 1947 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Dorris Allen Gilliam and the late Myrtle Eunice Ensley Gilliam. She was a 1965 graduate of Spring Hill High School. Later in life, she attended Columbia State Community College, Middle Tennessee State University and earned her Master’s degree in Education from Trevecca University. Mrs. Wells was a member of Lanton Church of Christ.

 

Survivors include her sons, Yancey (Alison) Smith of Duck River; Chris (Michele) Smith of Cedar Grove; sister, Faye Hughes of Columbia; grandchildren, Corey (Abby) Smith, Kristen Smith (Josh) McCord, Garrett Smith, Gage Smith, Gatlin Smith, Grace Smith, Graham Smith, Gwyneth Smith, Gideon Smith, Perrin (Abby) Smith, Hadley Smith, Lincoln Smith; great grandchildren, Cullen Smith, Harper McCord, Marlee McCord, and Mabel Jo Smith; one nephew; and two nieces.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her great granddaughter, Evelyn Amelia Smith.

 

Her grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.
