Bradley Mark Carter, 74, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2022 at the Nashville VA Medical Center secondary to complications of Parkinson’s disease. Brad resided with wife, Judy in Spring Hill, Tennessee.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judy Miller Carter; his children, Patrick Carter (Mary Alyson) and Bradley Carter (Kristen); his siblings, Kathy Ives (Gary), Jim Carter, Laura Hoff (Ken), and David Carter (Anne); grandchildren, Savannah Gregory, Grace Carter, Portia Carter, Hudson Wilson, Carson Carter, Lauren Carter; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother Bill Carter (Lucy).
Brad was born in Johnson City, NY on February 24, 1948 to parents William and Alice Carter. After Brad graduated from Catholic Central High School, he volunteered for the Marine Corps instead of waiting for the draft. He went to Camp Lejeune for basic training. When his first tour of Vietnam was cut short, he volunteered to serve a second tour. His exposure to Agent Orange was the cause of his later battle with Parkinson’s disease.
After his military service he met his wife, Judy. He then attended SUNY Delhi Community College in NY and earned an Associate’s degree. Following this, Brad and Judy moved to Cleveland, Ohio where he worked for the Campbell Soup Company. Their two sons were born in Cleveland. He then began what was a long and distinguished career with The J.R. Simplot Company which led the family to Allentown, Pennsylvania, Boise, Idaho, Farragut, Tennessee, and finally Franklin, Tennessee. Lifelong friendships emerged from his career with J.R. Simplot; Brad spoke weekly with his old friends until just days before his death.
Brad’s passions included gardening and traveling. He and Judy visited Spain, France, Morocco, Italy, China, Greece, Alaska, Cuba, and Mexico. Brad was very proud of his sons who are both attorneys and absolutely adored his grandchildren. He prioritized his grandchildren’s successes as well, attending each game, performance, and ceremony up until the week of his death.
We will miss Brad’s unfailing friendliness, integrity, generosity, sense of equity, smile, and piercing blue eyes.
A funeral mass will be held for family and close friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Peterson Foundation for Parkinson’s Disease (Franklin, TN) or the Oak View Basketball League at Oak View Elementary School (Franklin, TN). May Brad rest in peace from the pain and suffering of Parkinson’s disease.
