Boyd "Jay" StewartBoyd “Jay” Stewart, Veteran and retired MODOT Employee passed, away peacefully August 12,2023, one day before his 79th birthday.

 

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 12:00 P.M. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the church. Burial will be held at Middle Tennessee State Veteran’s Cemetery at Pegram. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements and .

Jay was born in Malden, MO where he was raised by his grandmother after his mother tragically passed away. Later he joined the Air Force where he served at Hill Air Force Base, in Utah, where he met and married his wife.  They raised their family in Jackson, MO then moved to Maury County, TN where he spent the last 23 years of his life.

 

He was known by many as “Purdy”. Jay was always willing to help and serve others with a big smile and spread joy with his humor and infectious enthusiasm.  He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Sandra Sherwood Stewart, a brother, and a sister.

 

Survivors include his sisters, Dorothy Lantz of Texas; Mary Light of Florida; children, Jean (Brad) Mouser of Culleoka; Ronnie (Dawn) Stewart of Culleoka; Richard (Kandi) Stewart of Trussville AL; Natalie (Sean) Hansen of Pensacola, FL; eleven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

 

Active pallbearers include Brad, Landon, Tate, Bryson, Christian, and Jacob Mouser of Culleoka, Ronald Stewart of Culleoka, and Richard Stewart of Trussville, AL.
