Box Car Café: A Restaurant Review

Every City or Town has that restaurant. You know it. Everyone meets there each day to discuss World Problems, Politics and drink coffee. The City of Sheffield has such a place. It is called the Box Car Café. It is located at the corner of Nashville Ave and 3rd Street. The hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 5AM-2PM/.
The Box Car offers breakfast from 5AM to 10AM. They offer a wide variety of food. From the tradition eggs, grits, toast, bacon, sausage to what they are famous for; Chocolate Gravy and Biscuits. If you have never had the Chocolate Gravy and Biscuits, you need to try them. It is pure heaven. They also offer French Toast and Pancakes. We were eating there the other morning when I saw someone order Country Ham. They brought a plate with a slab of ham hanging off the plate.
We have been there several times for breakfast. Between the hours of 7AM to 9AM they are usually pretty busy but a table can be found. There are always several copies of the newspapers lying around, which is great to read while your food is being prepared. The atmosphere is a “down home” relaxing venue. It is a relaxing place.
Now let’s talk about lunch. Each day, they offer a plate lunch with a meat selection along with 3 vegetables, desert, bread and a drink. The menu is different each day. We have tried the Barbequed Pork Chops which is severed on Tuesday. They are superb. We like having the option to choose what we want on our plate. Then we heard about the Double Cheeseburger and Tots.
So we ordered one to see what the craze was about. The plate arrived with a huge Double Cheeseburger and a plate full of Tater Tots. Picking up the burger, we took a bite. Ahhhh. There was an explosion of flavor of beef, cheese, bread, mustard, ketchup with a hint of grease. You know that you have to have a little grease to have the ultimate Cheeseburger. It was great.

In closing, go by the Box Car Café for breakfast or lunch. It is well worth it. There is a friendly atmosphere as well as good food. On a side note, if you ask very nicely, they will make you the Double Cheeseburger and Tots for breakfast. I am going to give the Box Car Café 3 Cheese sticks out of 5.
