Bonnie Lynn Downing – Obituary

Bonnie Lynn Downing, 71, passed away Friday, August 7, 2015 at the North MS Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born September 29, 1943 to John and Helen Downing. She grew up in Westminster, MD where she graduated High School. In the mid 70’s she and her sons headed south to Houston, MS and later moved to Okolona. An accomplished candy maker, she owned The Treat Shoppe in Tupelo for many years. A member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Westminster, she continued to support her church throughout her lifetime regardless of where she was living. The past 24 years, Bonnie has lived in New Albany. She also enjoyed sewing and arts and crafts, QVC and spending time with her loved ones.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 pm Thursday at the Lee Memorial Funeral Home. Lee Memorial is entrusted with the arrangements.

She is survived by her 3 sons, Scott Lee(Cissy) of Brandon, Neal Lee(Diane) of Apollo Beach, FL, Mark Lee(Monda) of Saltillo, 5 grandchildren Brandy Melton(Steve) of Brandon, Blair Lee(Marlo) of Columbia, Tn, Mathew Parker of Corinth, Craig Lee and Tiffany Lee of Saltillo, 3 great grandchildren Brad Gill, Brice Melton and Vada Lee, one special aunt Mrs. Virginia Reitz and extended family of Birdsboro, PA , and one rock hers and mine Jan Luniewski(Richard) of Gallupville, NY , two sister’s Susie Spangler of Westminster, MD , Boopie Garber(Gary) of New Windsor, MD

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Downing and Helen Downing Cullison, and her brother Bob Downing.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation.
