Bobby Welch Hill, 88, well known resident of the Falkner Community and retired highway construction superintendent, passed away peacefully Monday morning September 17, 2018 in the comfort of his home.
Funeral arrangements honoring the life of Mr. Hill will be at 1 PM Thursday September 20 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with his nephews, Rev. Jody Hill of Ripley Presbyterian Church and Rev. Richie Lockhart of Mt. Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment with graveside services will follow at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Falkner.
Born February 7, 1930 in Falkner, Ms , he was the oldest of fourteen children born to the late Robert and Juanita Welch Hill. Mr. Hill received his education at Falkner High School and was married to his beloved wife of 68 years, Lula Yates Hill who preceded him in death September 14, 2016.
Mr. Hill proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War Period from 1950 to 1952. He was assigned to the 114th Combat Engineers in Wisconsin. Upon completion of his military service Mr. Hill worked in highway construction for 61 years and retired in 2013 at the age of 84. He built and managed permanent roadway monument still is use today in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and Tennessee.
A member of Mt. Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Mr. Hill was blessed with a large family. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic and the love of riding his John Deere tractor. Mowing his lawn, watching the squirrels and hummingbirds in his back yard were pastime favorites.He devoted the remainder of his life to being a loving father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather.
Visitation will be from 11 AM to 1 PM today at The Ripley Funeral Home.
Mr. Hill’s memory will be treasured by his children Jan Hughes (Bobby) of Appling, GA and Brad Hill (Maria) of Falkner, eight sisters, Alice Horton(James), Janet Quinn (David), Grace Robertson (Clyde), Myra McKee (Robert), Barbara Waldon (Bill), Karen Bates (Donald), Cathy Griffin (Richard) and Lane Young (Stanley), four brothers, Jimmy Hill (Beth), Eugene Hill (Bobby Jean), Kenneth Hill (Betty) and Gerald Hill (Sherry), five grandchildren, Brandon Hill, Hillary Herring (Andy), Justin Hughes, Laken Rogers (David) and Meagan Hill and two great grandchildren, Greyson Rogers and Lillie Herring. He also leaves his special caregivers, Ann Johnson, Ricky Garth, Cedric Adams, Kelvis Steele, Tamala Garth, Wynisha Adams, Rickenta Garth, Erica Hampton, Tracy Gaillard, Anita Blake and Peggie Green.
Mr. HIll was also preceded in death by a son, Stanley Hill and a sister, Nita Green.
The family request that memorials be directed to Mt. Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 480 CR 401, Falkner, MS 38629.
