Bobby Marion Kirkpatrick

Bobby Marion Kirkpatrick was born in Tupelo, MS. on January 14, 1940, the only child of the late Claude M. Kirkpatrick and the late Lucille Roebuck Kirkpatrick.  He departed this life in Austin, Texas on August 10, 2022 after a sudden illness at age 82  Bobby Kirk, as the locals knew him, graduated from Pontotoc High School in l958 and joined the U. S. Navy on May 19, l959..  He served 4 years aboard the U.S.S. Muliphen in Norfolk, Va. near the end of the Cuban Missile Crisis. He received several medals and was honorably discharged on May 6, l963 with the rank of E-5-Engineman 2nd Class.  Bobby married Joy Hanna on October 29, l966 in Horn Lake, Miss., a marriage of  52 years until her death on Jan. 27, 2019.  Bobby was trained as a Diesel Mechanic at Nashville Auto-Diesel College and excelled in this line of work.  He eventually became a member of the United Parcel Service team retiring after over 30 years service to the Company.  The Kirkpatrick’s lived in Memphis, Tn., Brandon, Ms. and West Palm Beach , Florida. He and Joy found great contentment in their retirement home in Tetonia, Idaho where they lived until her death. He then relocated to the Austin, Texas area to be near his son, David.  Bobby Kirk had a splendid personality, was a people-person and enjoyed model trains, fly fishing and the great American outdoors. He loved his Mississippi ancestry and enjoyed his visits home over the years.  He was a member of the Zion Presbyterian Church in Pontotoc, Co. where his Kirkpatrick forebears were early settlers and are interred.

A service, with U. S. Navy honors, celebrating his life will take place at 11 AM Friday, November 11, 2022 in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with Rev, Rob Gill officiating.  Private burial will be in the Roebuck family plot at Old Union Cemetery west of Shannon next to his beloved Joy.  Holland Funeral Directors is honored to be serving their family.  Visitation will be from 10:30 AM-service time with a meal following the service in the funeral home dining hall for all Roebuck and Kirkpatrick descendents and their friends.

Bobby is survived by his sons, David Kirkpatrick and wife, Alana  of Austin, Tx. and Brian Kirkpatrick  and wife, Deanna of West Palm Beach, Fla; his grandchildren, Banks Kirkpatrick, Jackson, Kirkpatrick, Henry Kirkpatrick and Mary- Grace Kirkpatrick and his local cousins.

Memorials are asked to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 252 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tn. 38105.
