Bobby Leo Dean,78, of Athens passed away on August 26, 2021, at his residence. A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. at the Elk River Mills Memorial Cemetery on Sunday, September 5, 2021, with Bro. Jim Clutter officiating. The family asks that you please wear a mask if you are in close contact due to the Covid concern.
Bobby Dean was born December 12, 1942, in Athens. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce Marie Taylor Dean, his son, Brad (Missy) Dean, and Tammy Green; four grandchildren, Hunter Stephenson, Breanna Dean, Lauren Dean, and Halston Stephenson; one brother, Leon (Jean) Dean; nephews Lance Dean (Selina) and Kevin Dean, and sister-in-law Barbara Dean.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Mary Dean and brother Mahlon Dean, and nephew Danny Dean (Jane).
In his early years he traveled the rodeo circuit. Bobby was known as Heavy Dean to all his cowboy friends that he loved dearly. He also held the Tennessee state record in steer wrestling.
Bobby was dubbed the mayor of Sugar Creek where he was an avid fisherman and community cook. Over the years he enjoyed spending time on the water with many fellow fishermen. Preparing meals, BBQs, stews, and fish fries for family and friends were highlight events of his life. Much to the dismay of family members and numerous friends, he spent countless hours planning and organizing mischief and shenanigans. His office was at Sportsmans Park where he could always be found at least twice a day with his buddies in that certain chair at the liars table. To say he will be missed by many is an understatement.
