Obituary of Bobby Gene MillerOn June 12th, 1941 Bobby Gene Miller, commonly known as ‘Butch’ was the only child born to Donald & Bertie Mae Miller in Athens, AL. He lived 82 glorious years before he gained his wings on September 8th, 2023 in his home in Decatur, AL.

In 1956 Butch’s eyes caught glimpse of a marvelously stunning young women named Jane Terry – who in return, fancied him at first glance (depending on who you ask). The bond between the two of them grew until they decided to marry on April 2nd, 1958, which paved the way for the names that follow:

4 Children: Rita, Bobby, Johnny, & Lisa;

8 Grandchildren: Dana, Nathan, Leigh-Ann, Shana, John, Nick, Jeremy, Tyler;

19 Great-Grandchildren: Cheyanne, Deion, Quinton, Brianna, Brian, Hailey, Alyssa, Morgan, Preston, Kensleigh, Mason, Miyah, Johanna, Shailey, Butch, Landon, Haedynn, Krimson, Charlotte:

2 Great-Great-Grandchildren: Presley & Ashton.

Anyone who knew ‘Butch’ understood that he put God and family, respectively, above anything else; however, if it had the words “Alabama Football” or “Nascar Racing” written across it, he did make an exception from time-to-time. At home he couldn’t go a day without jamming to his ‘Golden Oldies’ music 50s-80s, rather it be on vinyl, the car radio, or the TV station – he could recite every lyric and trivia answer about the artists and songs. Others may know him as somewhat of a semi-pro at playing horseshoes when the family gathered together or a picnic at the church was going on – no matter how tired that body was, Butch was going to get in on a few games. Rather it be his mechanic, the man who supplied his paper towels, pumped his gas, or fixed on his watch knew him personally, because Butch was a man that loved to make connection, truly get to know the person without judgement of any kind. He had his fair share of thrills back in his younger years from drives across the country to owning businesses to waking up in places he has never slept before, which all became fascinating stories he would reminisce to everyone about and the learning moments he took from them. As Jane (his wife) use to say, “I would have to snatch him out of the juke joints from time to time”. It was always hilarious hearing their wild love stories, because he always knew where ‘Home’ was – he cared so deeply about his family and will be surly be missed by all that met him.
