Bobby Gene Estes “Bob-Bob”

bobBobby Gene Estes “Bob-Bob” went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior, at his residence, with his family by his side on July 11, 2016. He was born in Nettleton and graduated from Nettleton High School. He met and married the girl of his dreams in Nettleton, Janie Layzette Maynard Gillentine. He served in the United States Navy for four years during the Korean War. He also attended Mississippi State University for two years. He was a paint contractor with his father at the beginning of his career, J.O. Estes & Son. He later opened the Paint Pot in Tupelo and Starkville. Changing careers dramatically, he opened a men’s specialty clothing store, Rag’s For Men, in Tupelo in 1969. Later it was known as Rags and The East Room, when his wife Janie opened up the ladies specialty boutique. Due to failing health, the family closed the business in October, 2011. During his career, he was very instrumental in helping Tombigbee Bank and Trust, now known as Trustmark Bank, to open in Tupelo. He also served on the Board of Directors for 18 years. He was a member of Nettleton Pentecostal Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fashion and painting.
All services will the private. Entombment will be in Lee Memorial Park’s Chapel of Faith Mausoleum. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Janie Layzette Estes; two daughters, Gyl Elaine Estes and Barbara Jean Comer all of Tupelo; one granddaughter, Misty Michelle Malone; two great-granddaughters, Bree Ann Gist and Anna Clair Gist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Oscar and Jessie Bell Estes; one brother, James “Pete” Estes; one sister, Helen Frances Estes Ramage; one son, Timothy Michael Estes and one grandson, Austin Taylor Estes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to NMMC Hospice.
