Bobby Earl Dixon – Obituary

Bobby Earl Dixon, 71, a resident of Cherokee, Alabama and a former resident of the Walnut community, passed away Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, Alabama following a brief illness.

Services celebrating the life of Mr. Dixon will be 3 p.m. today at the Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Brother Joe Keith Carpenter of Ripley officiating. Burial will follow in The Tiplersville Cemetery. Arrangements will be provided by the Ripley Funeral Home.

Born Sept. 28, 1946, in Tippah County, he was the son of the late Buford and Sallie Booker Dixon. Bobby received his education in the Tippah County public school system and was a graduate of Walnut High School.

A Christian and a Baptist, Mr. Dixon was married on July 2, 1965, to his devoted wife, Peggy Hopper Dixon, who survives.

He was employed with the Tennessee Valley Authority for 29 years and in later years was a private business owner before his retirement. A resident of Alabama since 1993, Mr. Dixon will be remembered as a family oriented person who enjoyed outdoor activities that included hunting and fishing. Mr. and Mrs. Dixon enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with family and friends.

A visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the Ripley Funeral Home.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 52 years, Peggy Dixon, and his sons, Kevin and Robert Dixon, all of Cherokee, Alabama; a granddaughter, Ashlyn Carr-Dixon, of Bells, Tennessee; goddaughters, Stephanie Williams, of Bartlett, Tennessee, and Lacy Chapman, of Hernando, Mississippi; along with many other loving family members including brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces; and nephews.

Mr. Dixon was preceded in death by a goddaughter, Samantha Stewart.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Dixon, Greg Donley, David Hamilton, Todd Kirkland, Leland Timmons, Jason Sockwell, Daulton Donley, and Clay Waddell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Brotherton, Marion Sullivan, Pat Patterson, Gary Robbins, Brandon Deaton, and Joe Hayes

Thanks to the Rose Trail community for their kindness shown to our family during the last days. We especially want to thank Vicky, Clay, Gary, David, the Hayes, Montgomerys and Deatons, and Leland Timmons. We would also like to thank the nurses on the fourth floor of Helen Keller Hospital, Sheffield, Alabama. Thanks also for our special caretaker Bernita for going above and beyond for her sincere acts of care and concern to our family during our loved ones most difficult days.
