TUSCUMBIA-Huston Cobb Jr. is a man of great distinction who has devoted his life to serving his country and his community. A survivor of the Black slave descendants in northwestern Alabama, Cobb is a Navy veteran, former TVA foreman and supervisor, political advocate, and former member of several prestigious local boards including the UNA Board of Trustees and the Colbert County Board of Equalization.

In celebration of this impressive milestone, Bluewater Publications is excited to announce the release of Cobb’s first published work, Black Folktales of the Muscle Shoals. This historical memoir, coauthored with Rickey Butch Walker, captures the history and heritage of the Black individuals of northwest Alabama. Combined with the extensive genealogical research and personal interviews conducted by Walker, Cobb’s own experience and interviews help to provide a detailed account of the development of this region and population from the perspectives of those who live there.

“A valuable addition to the historical record of northwest Alabama that emphasizes the legacy of local Black men and women.” — Kirkus Reviews
