Billy Wayne HoustonBilly Wayne Houston, 91, of Cherokee, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 12:00 to 2:00 at Morrison Funeral Home in Cherokee. The funeral will follow in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 with burial in Mynot Cemetery, Cherokee. Bro. George Henley will officiate the service.

Billy was born April 24, 1932, in Mt. Hope, Alabama, to William Bradley and Anna Mae Houston. First and foremost, Billy loved his family and was a friend to all who knew him. He attended Harris Chapel Baptist Church. He served in the Navy for four years. He retired after 35 years working with TVA. Billy was a gardener for many years, best known for his tomatoes. He also had some of the most beautiful flowers which he took pride in. One of Billy’s hobbies was watching local farmers around Cherokee.

Billy was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Carolyn Taylor Houston; parents, William Bradley Houston and Anna Mae Choat Houston; brother, Grady Houston; sister, Eulene Thomason; grandson, Joshua Taylor Houston; and great-grandson, Cruze Gadsden Bonds. Survivors include his children, Michael Houston (Julie), Kim Bonds (Keith), and Gina Houston, all of Cherokee; three sisters, Ruby Lawler, Freida Pounders, and Jean Linville; grandchildren, Kelly Brooks, Meagan Cornelius (Cyrus), Jeremy Houston (Leah), Morgan Bonds, and Levi Bonds; great-grandchildren, Jacob Middleton, Noah Middleton, Sawyer Cornelius, Bella Houston, Carolyne Cornelius, Braylen Houston, and Cora Bonds.

Pallbearers will be Levi Bonds, Jeremy Houston, Cyrus Cornelius, Noah Middleton, Lee Williams, and Kevin Bonds. Honorary pallbearers will be Shane, Todd, Neal, and Tyler Isbell. Special thank you to Helen Keller Hospital PCU nurses and Gentiva Hospice.
