Rev. Billy Wayne Cornett, 80, died at his home on Thursday, October 5, 2023. He was born on January 4, 1943 in Union County Mississippi to the late WD and Wilma Robinson Cornett. He graduated from Macedonia High School in West Union in 1960. Growing up Bill loved drag racing, farming with cows, driving tractors. Bill was a good ole country boy. After school he joined the National Guard and served eight years. Afterward, he married the mother of his children, Alva Roberson Cornett, and they were married for 30 years until her death. Bill was plant manager at various furniture plants then retired from Cooper Tire in 2006. Bill has been ministering to people from the age of 35. In 2004, he surrendered to ministry, and was licensed and ordained. He served in Lee County, Monroe County, Chickasaw County, and until his health started to fail in April 2023 he was serving Benton County.

On May 25, 2003 Bill married Martha Cornett and they have enjoyed 20 years of going to all the grands’ ball games and activities. They enjoyed camping, car shows, cruising on the coast, Saturday night singings. When relaxing, he loved to be in his recliner with his cat, Scooter, watching John Wayne Westerns.

A service celebrating Bill’s life will be on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel with Bro. Kenneth Leslie, Bro. Charles Provine and Bro. Brownie Tohill officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 5-7 PM at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo and from 1 PM to service time on Sunday. He is survived by his wife, Martha Cornett, daughters Summer Cornett Goodwin, Aprile Cornett Dobbs (Paul), Patti Leslie (Kenneth), Melissa Tutor; grandchildren, Claudie Jace McCarty (Desmond), Montanah Sain (Brandi), Dominik Jackson, Nickolas Hogue (Carmen), Matthew Hogue (Heather), Sabastien Goodwin (Kayla), Karen Jordan (Josh), Kaytlynn Dobbs, Kirsten Dobbs, Brandi Plaxico (Jimmy), Morgan Comer (Kelby), and Dustin Tutor (Brittany); 25 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pat Culver (Billy). He was preceded in death by his wife, Alva Roberson Cornett; his parents; son-in-law Blake Goodwin; and son Tim Tutor.

The grandchildren will serve as Pallbearers; Kelby Comer, Jimmy Plaxico, Dustin Tutor, Desmond McCarty, Matthew Hogue, Sebastien Goodwin, and Nickolas Hogue. The Great Grandchildren will serve as Honorary Pallbearers; Tanner Plaxico, Carter Murphy, Cayson Tutor, Rusty Plaxico, Grayson McCarty, Dominik Jackson, Ben McGlofin, Haizen Jackson, Maddox Hogue, Beckett Dobbs, Legend Dobbs, and Hays Tutor.
