Rev. Billy Ray McElyea (Bill) a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend entered into his Heavenly home on Saturday, May 4, 2024. He was 88 years old.
Billy was born on October 5, 1935 in New Market, Al. He was a life insurance representative for over 30 years and served in the ministry for over 50 years. He was an avid sports fan and played senior softball and basketball until he was 79 years old.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents Milton and Sudie McElyea; brothers Maurice and Martin McElyea; three sisters Velda Ricketts, Wilma Stephens, and Thelma Bell.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Stephens McElyea; Four daughters, Kelly (John) Penny, Pam Chamberlain, Michelle Hallum, and Tara (Chris) Walls; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.,
Grand Pallbearers: Michael McElyea, Stephen Walls, Wesley Hallum, Jacob Hallum, Matthew Walls, and Chris Neutze.
Great Grand Honorary Pallbearers: Derrick Clayton, Robert Bragdon, Hunter Bragdon, Zachery Bragdon, Michael Wayne McElyea, Ethan McElyea, Carter McElyea, Tay Nance, Brandon Graham, Jacob Neutze, and Hunter Carroll.
Visitation will be Friday 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at New Salem Baptist Church. Services will be held at New Salem Baptist Church, Saturday at 12:00 pm with Bro. Mike Shaneyfelt and Thomas Walls officiating. Interment will be in Hayden Cemetery.
