Billy Jack McCarthy – Obituary

Billy Jack McCarthy, 76, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016, at The Meadows. He was born October 20, 1939, to Lawrence and Maggie Sue Hall McCarthy. He was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church where he served as church treasurer for many years. He served as Tax Collector for Itawamba County and worked for Itawamba County and the U.S. Corps of Engineers in area of maintenance for the Tenn-Tom Waterway.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Rodney Lindsey, Bro. Guyton Hinds, and Bro. Matt Hudson officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Jean McCarthy; two daughters, Shauna Clouse (Scott) of Mantachie and Amanda Wheeler (Bryan) of Fulton; one brother, Charlie McCarthy of Fulton; one sister, Margaret Pedigo of Tupelo; and four grandchildren, Jacob Clouse, Sarah Clouse, Molly Beth Wheeler, and McCarthy Wheeler.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Joe McCarthy and John “Spoodler” McCarthy.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Farris, Terry McCarthy, Eddie McCarthy, and Scotty McCarthy.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 29, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie.
