Billy Gene White Profile PhotoBilly Gene White, 84, retired security guard for Farm Bureau, died Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Nashville VA Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Catherine Catholic Church with the Very Rev. Daniel Reehil, VF officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Monday from 3:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Born September 13, 1939 in Brace, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Monroe White and the late Molly Mae Dye White. Mr. White enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country for 12 years, part of which, he was deployed and served during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and four Overseas Bars. Mr. White loved being involved with his sons and was a loving father and a great baseball coach. He was an avid sports fan, He was a proud Alabama fan on Saturdays, and cheered for Derrick Henry on Sundays.  Mr. White was a loving husband of 54 years to his wife, Rossmarie Lieslotte Barthlelmes White, until her passing in 2019. He was a member of the VFW Post 4969 and a dedicated member of St. Catherine Catholic Church where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his sons, Mike (Melissa) White and Mark (Jenny) White; and grandson, Henry White.  In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles White, Clarence White, Ronnie White; half-brother, James Russell; and half-sister, Dorothy Nell Collett.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Thomas, Derrick Brady, Kevin Fogle, B.J. Moss, Bryan Richardson, John Waldrum, and Jay Burns. Honorary pallbearers will include V.A. Staff, members of the VFW, and the Knights of Columbus. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of the Veterans Administration, TN State Veterans Home, Alvin C. York Veterans Hospital, Wade Shelton, Danny White, Shanteala, and Brad.
