Funeral Services for Mr. Billy F. Williamson, age 86 of Lineville, will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 3:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Ben Johnson and Rev. Noah Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Christian Church Cemetery.
Mr. Williamson passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at his residence in Lineville, Al. He was born in Clay County and graduated from Bibb Graves High School in 1956. He served his country in the U.S. Army and Alabama National Guard from 1956 through 1994. He served in Desert Shield/Desert Storm, and in Blazing Trails of 1985 in the Panama Canal. He retired as a SSG after serving 29 plus years in various capacities. His medals included army service ribbon/army reserve/components achievement medal and two oaks leaf clusters. He also received army reserve component overseas training ribbon, sharp shooters badge (rifle), and the national defense service medal. Mr. Williamson was ordered to active duty in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm with the 123rd Service and Supply Co. in Goodwater. He also received southwest Asia service medal and two bronze stars.
Mr. Williamson retired after 22 years of service Burroughs Adding Machine Corp. in Birmingham, and then worked in food service at the Alabama Military Academy for several years. He was a member of the American Legion and Bethel Christian Church but had been attending Lineville Church of Christ in recent years.
Mr. Williamson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Catherine Williamson of Lineville; his 2 daughters, Alisa Haynes (Jeff) of Douglasville, Ga. and Julie Martin (Scott) of Killen, Alabama; one son, Jeff Williamson (Teresa) of Ashland; his step daughter, Tonya Smith of Lineville; and step son, Tony Hill of Lineville; 2 sisters, Betty Hagel of and Dorothy Ann Cole both of Birmingham; 3 brothers, Fred Williamson (Doris) of Springville, Robert Williamson (Dolores) of Fayetteville, and Lyndol Williamson (Jan) of Birmingham; sisters in law, Rose Griffin (Charles) of Lineville and Linda Jones of Richland, Ga.; 3 brothers in law, Wayne Prestridge (Dot) of Lineville, Aubrey Prestridge (Marsha) of Tocoa, Georgia, and Donnie Prestridge (Becky) of Lineville; 14 grandchildren, Justin Haynes (Kasey), Lauren Cheatham (Cody), Chelsie Pruitt ( Bobby), Jack Williamson, Emma Williamson, Molly Williamson, Michael Martin, (Katherine), Will Martin (Ashley), Scotland Simpkins (William), Erin Smith, Ericka Smith, Ethan Hill, Trenton Hill, and Griffin Hill; 13 great grandchildren; and a host of extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Edgar Williamson and Anna Frank Pitts Williamson, first wife, Betty Jane Williamson; sisters, Wynelle Reid (Larry) and Estelle Hallman (Billy Ralph); brothers, Roy Williamson (Jean) and Dan Williamson (Barbara); brother in laws, Dennis Cole and H. Hagel; sister in law, Evelyn White; and great granddaughter, Ryleigh Smith.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023 from 1:00 P.M. until service time at 3:00 PM
