Billy Buckelew, 85, of Albertville, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and community. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Dorothy Ogle Buckelew; his children, Billy Jack (Sherry) Buckelew, Cindie (Patrick) Crawford, and Tracy Drake; his cherished grandchildren, Heather (Colby) Carroll, Kaysi Johnson, Tyler (Chelsey) Bartlett, Brody Kilpatrick, Eric Drake, Josiah Buckelew, and Colton Buckelew; and 10 beloved great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary “Lizzie” Buckelew, a great-grandchild, Charlotte “Lottie” Bartlett, and brothers, R.E. and Bennie Buckelew.
Billy was a longtime member of New Heights Baptist Church and a retired truck driver. He was known for his contributions to the Boaz Senior Center, where he founded their square-dancing club. As “Uncle Gus” the clown, he brought joy to many at churches, nursing homes, the ARC and schools through the D.A.R.E. program. Billy was a talented musician, playing both piano and guitar. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shepherd’s Cove in Albertville or New Heights Baptist Church. Billy will be remembered for his infectious humor and love for his family.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
