Mrs. Billie Jo Gaines, age 89 of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 26th, 2024. The Graveside Service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 31st, 2024 at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens.
Billie was born on Wednesday, October 10th, 1934 in Pulaski, Tennessee to the late William Bill Burton and Lorene Collins Johnston Burton. A graduate of Beech Hill High School, Billie grew up in Pulaski, Tennessee, where she married her Junior High Sweetheart, James Harold Gaines, the love of her life. They celebrated 69 years together.
She was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother, who was better known as “Mimi”. A member of Gladeville Church of Christ, Billie loved God. Her family, sports, and books were also among the things she loved. Although she was known for her quick wit, she was beautiful inside and out and loved by all.
She is survived by son, Russell “Rusty” Joe Gaines; daughter-in-law, Vicki Sizemore Gaines; two grandchildren, Christy (Garrick) Odom and Grant (Laura) Gaines; five great-grandchildren, Gaines, Will, Ella Jo, Ava, and James Michael, who all reside in Mt. Juliet, TN; sister-in-law, Nita Johnson.
She was preceded in death by husband, James “Jim” Gaines; son, James “Tony” Gaines; sister, Doris Johnston Hughey; brother, Richard M. Johnston.
