MONTGOMERY— Governor Robert Bentley on Friday announced the appointment of Bill Newton as Acting Finance Director.
Bill Newton has served as the Assistant Finance Director and oversees the two state budgets, purchasing, accounting, payroll, financial reporting and debt management functions of state government. He has a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Alabama and a Juris Doctorate from FaulknerUniversity’s Jones Law School. Bill has over 30 years of experience in state government finance operations.
“I appreciate Bill Newton’s willingness to serve as Acting Finance Director,” Governor Robert
Bentley said. “Bill’s commitment to public service and his legal background make him well qualified to lead this important state agency. Bill is an integral part of the Department of Finance and has the right experience and knowledge to lead the agency until I appoint a permanent director.”
“I am honored Governor Bentley has entrusted me with the opportunity to serve as Acting Finance Director,” Bill Newton said. “I look forward to serving in this new role while continuing to work with the members of the Department of Finance to carry out the Governor’s mission of making state government more effective and efficient with taxpayer dollars.”
The appointment is effective June 1.
