Bettye Louis Harrison of Athens, AL passed away November 23, 2021.

Visitation will be at McConnell Funeral Home on Saturday November 27, from 12pm until 1pm. Funeral services will follow in the chapel at 1pm with Bro. David Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ben Maples, Josh Maples, Will Maples, Joseph Vann, David Maples, and Erica Maples.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hospice of Limestone County.

Bettye was a graduate of West Limestone High School, and received a B.S. in Mathematics from Athens College. She was employed at Marshall Space Flight Center as a mathematician in the computer service office. She was a computer programmer and a technical monitor at Marshall. She received the Outstanding Performance Award and the Director’s Commendation for dedicated service at MSFC. She was part of the team that contributed to the success of the Skylab Program.

Bettye liked to fish, read, garden and bowl in her younger days, but her favorite hobby was genealogy. She spent countless hours researching in cemeteries and in courthouses, as well as writing letters to distant relatives for information about the extended family. She compiled and published genealogy books for future generations of the family. She was a longtime member of Market Street Church of Christ.

Bettye is preceded in death by her parents, David and Flossie Harrison; sisters, Dorene Elders and Kathryn Griggs; and niece Anniece Crews.

She is survived by her niece, Nancy Jo Maples (Billy); great-niece, Diane Pettitt (Mark); great-nephews, Dave Maples (Dana) and Tommy Maples (Melanie); 7 great-great-nieces and nephews; and 7 great-great-great nieces and nephews. Bettye was well loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
