Mrs. Bettye Jean Hallum of McMinnville passed away Thursday, August 15, 2024. Born Bettye Jean Sitz, July 26, 1932 in Grundy County, Tennessee. She met and married A.P. Hallum of McMinnville who preceded her in in December of 1995. Bettye met and married Terry C. Averitt of Clarksville, Tennessee who also preceded her in death in 2013. Mrs. Hallum was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was also preceded in death by parents Harry S. Sitz, Sr., Mary Louise Richmond Champion and brothers Harry S. Sitz, Jr and Tommy Lexan Champion. She is survived by her three children, Michael W. (Molli) Hallum, Mark B. (Amy) Hallum both of McMinnville, Marcie Hallum (Jay) Bowen of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL., five grandchildren, Jill Hallum Mullican (Felix Jimenez) of Saint Albans, Vermont, Elliott (Madeleine) Hallum of Murfreesboro, Emily (Leif) Lacey of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, DuVal Bowen of New York, New York, and William Bowen of Fort Collins, Colorado, five great grandchildren and her sister Carolyn Masingill of Monteagle, Tennessee A vibrant personality and loving sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Bettye played an important role in all their lives. She was a fixture on the Warren County nursing scene from the 1950’s through the 1970’s where on the job training was the norm. She excelled in this role working at The Medical Clinic and Hospital and also for both Drs. Ralph Moore and J.C. Gaw. A private service was held where Bettye was inurned next to her husband A.P. Hallum in Mt. View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nashville Rescue Mission, 639 Lafayette Street, Nashville, TN 37203.
