Bettye “Candy” McCullar was born May 7, 1949 in Jackson, TN, the daughter of the late Houston and Sadie Gooch Shields.
Candy cut hair for many years, ran Gooch’s Restaurant in Powells Chapel Community, and later owned a housekeeping business for 15 years in the Memphis, TN area. Her favorite hobbies were going to yard sales and auctions. She loved spending time with her son’s and grandchildren. Candy always took special care of her brother David and had a special place in her heart for all animals.
Miss McCullar departed this life on September 1, 2014 in Adamsville, Tennessee at the age of 65 Years, 3 Months, 25 Days.
She is survived by three sons: Steven McCullar and wife JoAnna of Jackson, TN, Michael McCullar of Adamsville, TN, Matthew McCullar and wife Carrie of Adamsville, TN; two brothers: Claus Reiner Houston Staberock and wife Heike of Germany, and David Shields of Adamsville, TN; six grandchildren: Shelbie Lynn Jordan, Houston McCullar, Joseph McCullar, Seth McCullar, Ethan McCullar, and Courtney Wilbanks; three great grandchildren: Lily Grace Jordan, Whitley Jae Mayfield, and Jace Riley McCullar; the father of her children, Jacky McCullar of Selmer, TN; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Miss McCullar was preceded in death by a companion of 15 years, Harry Bishop.
