Betty Sue Tittsworth Hale

Betty Sue Tittsworth Hale, age 94, of Smithville died on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at Westminster Canterbury on the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Born on May 9, 1930 in Smithville, where she lived for most of her life, Betty was the oldest daughter of the late Maudell Parker Tittsworth and Haskell Brown Tittsworth. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Jerre Ray Hale Sr.; sons Jay and John; her siblings Billy (Dot), Brownie, Sandra, Faye (Clamon) and Jane (Sonny); and her brother in law J Edward Hale.

A longtime member of Smithville First Baptist Church, she believed deeply in volunteering as a member of the Smithville Women’s Club and was one of the driving forces in the establishment of Greenbrook Park.

Betty was fascinated with history of all kinds, loved decorating for holidays, enjoyed reading and creating art, was a fantastic cook, is deeply loved and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.

She is survived by her sisters in law, Lillian Tittsworth of Smithville, Gloria Hale of Liberty and Betty Henderson of Martin; her daughter, Suzanne (Bo) Barbour of Virginia Beach; grandchildren Jason (Becca) Hale, Amanda Hale, Sara (Doug) Green and Holly (Peter) Lee; eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, numerous beloved nieces and nephews, various friends, and her great grandson’s dog Charlie, the only dog she ever liked.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be held 11:AM Monday, December 30, 2024 at DeKalb Memorial Gardens.  There will not be any visitation or services at the funeral home.  Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the graveside service on Monday at 11:AM.
