Betty Sue McCaleb O’Connor, 92, retired secretary for Columbia Office Supply and longtime resident of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at her residence.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, November 1, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Ledbetter officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday, November 1, 2024 from 10:00 AM until time of the services at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home.
Betty was born on May 21, 1932 in Hickman County, Tennessee to the late Leon McCaleb and the late Thelma Lovell McCaleb. On July 18, 1952, she married Maurice Adam O’Connor and he preceded her in death on September 22, 1987. She had many interests including traveling, cooking, quilting, fishing, watching the wildlife in her yard and her greatest joy was her flower gardening that was a beautiful creation that she loved to share with her friends and family. Her greatest love was her grandchildren that she cherished beyond measure. Betty was a devoted member of Liberty Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Garry (Lisa) O’Connor of Nashville, Randy O’Connor of Franklin, and Dwade O’Connor of Palm Springs, California; five grandchildren, Thomas O’Connor, Grant O’Connor, Chance O’Connor, Jillian (Jack Fitzgerald) O’Connor, and Molly O’Connor; great granddaughter, Riley O’Connor; three sisters-in-law, Patsy Redmond, Karan Lyons, and Ruth O’Connor; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Connie and Terry Heflen; and caregivers, Lori Anderson and Cathy Odom.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Lester McCaleb and a sister Naomi Gordon.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
