Betty Sue Angel McKay, 94, of Winchester, TN formerly of Franklin, NC passed away on the 28th of May 2024 following a brief illness.
Betty Sue was born on May 16, 1930. A native of Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Martin L. and Aileen R. Angel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years and father of her children, Tommy C. McKay; infant son Gary Neil McKay; and sister, Loraine Corbin Powell. She is survived by her children, Thomas Martin McKay (Donna) of Cornelius, NC, Mary Beth Henley (William) of Decherd, TN; grandchildren, McKayla Henley of Fayetteville, TN, Will Henley of Decherd, TN, step-grandchildren, William Davenport (Jackie) of Cornelius, NC, and Dustin (Melissa) Davenport of Charleston, SC; four step-great grandchildren; sister-in laws, Dorothy McKay Mashburn, and Linda Cochran McKay both of Franklin, NC; and a number of nephews.
Betty was a devout Christian and loved her Lord and Savior. She was a life member of First Baptist Church in Franklin where she was active in the Mary Frances Parker Sunday School Class and served on various church committees.
Betty was a graduate of Franklin High School and Blanton’s Business College. She worked for six years as a Draft Board Clerk before working at Angel Hospital for twenty-seven years and Harris Regional Hospital for thirteen years. Betty was a 65+ year member of the Order of Eastern Star #43 Nequassa Chapter and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Funeral services will be held at Macon Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin, NC on Monday, June 3, 2024 at 1:00pm. Visitation will be two hours prior to service.
Burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Franklin, NC following the service.
Officiating will be Pastor Robert Brown of First Baptist Church, Franklin, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Carolina or Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home or First Baptist Church of Franklin, NC (address: 69 Iotla St Franklin, NC 28734).
The family expresses their gratitude to the staff of Franklin Manor Assisted Living Center and Karen Maze, FNP for their love, friendship and care during the last seven years of Betty’s life and to Gentiva Hospice for their compassion.
