Betty GriffinBetty Stroud Griffin, of Raleigh, NC, died November 2, 2024 following a long illness. She was born in Cedar Hill, TN on May 14, 1933 to Clarence Gilbert and Ola Angeline Davis Stroud. Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Dr. Newton Bramblett Griffin; 3 brothers, Clarence Gilbert Stroud, Jr., Louisville, KY, George Robert Stroud, Cedar Hill, TN and Richard Davis Stroud, Athens, TN; and a nephew, Clarence Gilbert Stroud, III, Pensacola, FL.

She is survived by a sister, Patsy Stroud Walker, Richardson, TX; and five nieces and two nephews: Kimberly Walker Ashby (Barry) of Sparta, NC, Jan Walker Van Blarcum (William), Plano, TX, Tracey Stroud Bryant, Cedar Hill, TN, Robert Raymond Stroud (Tammy), Cedar Hill, TN, Melonie Carideo (Paul), Athens, TN, Michael Stroud, Radcliff, KY and Patti Stroud Haynes, Radcliff, KY.

Betty graduated from Meredith College, Raleigh, NC majoring in Social Work, and later served on the Meredith Board of Directors. She leaves a legacy of love, kindness, and wonderful memories of her joy helping others. She was known to be a dedicated community volunteer, and was always there for family and friends. Betty was an active member of the Colonel Polk DAR Chapter, Raleigh, NC, serving as Regent from 2004-2006, and was a member of the Wake County Medical Auxiliary (now Alliance) 1977-1978. She joined the WCMC Auxiliary on the local and state levels in 1968, and was also known for helping to organize meals when a medical family experienced death.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Friday, November 15, 2024 at the Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary’s Street, Raleigh, NC 27605 with Dr. Allen Page officiating.
On Monday, November 18, 2024, family and friends will gather for a 1-hour visitation from 10 – 11 am at Austin & Bell Funeral Home, 509 Walnut Street, Springfield, TN. Graveside services will be 1 pm at Spring Hill Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Pike South, Madison, TN 37216.

Donations may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Betty and Newton Griffin.

Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of these arrangements.
