Betty Joyce Sargent, age 90, of Fultondale, Alabama, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 11, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Beulah Sargent and neieces, Sherry Sargent; brothers, Carl Sargent, W.P. Sargent (Willie Faye), Frank Sargent (Eula); sisters, Ola Mae Reeves (Joe), and Nora McGuirk (John). Left to cherish her memories are her nieces, Judy Hulsey, Carol Wilkins, Jo Ann Patterson, Nancy Reeves, Susie Clements and Diane Hill; nephews William Sargent, Ronnie Sargent, Leroy Sargent, Joseph Reeves, John McGuirk and William McGuirk.
Betty was born September 6, 1929, in Dora, Alabama. She graduated from Dora High School in 1949 and started her career at Palmer Mercantile in Dora. Soon after, there was an opening at the Dora Bank, and Mr. Palmer insisted that she apply for that job. After forty-five years, ten months and twenty-three days Betty retired as Vice-President and Branch Manager of the Dora Branch of Synovous Bank of Jasper. She was a member of Dora First Baptist Church and later, Fultondale First Baptist Church. She served on various committees at her churches and in Walker County.
Visitation will be at New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home in Dora, Alabama, on Sunday, March 15, 2020 from 1:00-2:00 pm, with graveside service only at 2:00 pm at McCormack Cemetery, Dora, Alabama.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Miss Sargent’s caregivers, Gloyce Austin, Ann Cantey and Connie McDonald, and to Hope Hospice and Doctors Alford and Grinder. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be given in Betty’s memory to Fultondale First Baptist Church, 409 Main Street, Fultondale, Alabama 35068.
