Betty “Joan” Derryberry Brewer – Obituary

Betty “Joan” Derryberry Brewer, age 83, of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2017.

Joan was born on February 25, 1934 in Beech, Tennessee to the late Elmo Derryberry and Mattie Ingram Derryberry. Joan was the 1952 Homecoming Queen at Hay Long High School and graduated as her classes’ valedictorian. Joan worked as the distribution manager in Mt. Pleasant for The Daily Herald. She loved to quilt and was a fantastic cook. She spent several years as a Girl Scout leader in Mt. Pleasant. She often spent time with her mother and deeply loved her family. Joan was a member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant.

The family will visit with friends and family on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee with Frank Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.

Joan is survived by her children Melinda (Jerry) Sands, Raymond M. Brewer, and Melody Haywood; grandchildren Wesley (Tiffani) Sands, Travis (Leslie) Brewer, Lindsay (Brad) Hargrove, Jessica Haywood, and Morgan Brewer; great-grandchildren Lillie Sands, Lindley Sands, and Jackson Hargrove; sister Lucy Potts; and sister-in-law Mary Sue Hooper.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband Raymond “Blackie” Brewer; parents Elmo and Mattie Derryberry; and brother Gerald Derryberry.

Pallbearers will be Wesley Sands, Travis Brewer, Brad Hargrove, Jerry Hooper, and Curtis Haywood.
