Betty Jean Tims Smith, age 75, of Decherd went to her heavenly home on Saturday, November 9, 2024, surrounded by her family. Betty was born in Tullahoma, Tennessee, on June 20,1949 to the late Fred Dance and Elizabeth Pauline (Creek) Tims. Over the span of her working career, Betty worked with her husband, Bill, at Smith Farms, as well as spending many years in education at Good Shepherd, Oak Grove, and Decherd Elementary School with the Save the Children Program. Betty was a faithful member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Most recently, she and her family have been attending Alto United Methodist Church. Betty married the love of her life, Bill Smith, in 1968. Bill and Betty shared an endearing love for one another and an indescribable bond. Over the years, they enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards, fishing on area lakes, traveling to casinos, sitting on the sidelines of countless sporting events and dining out for a good meal. It is well known that Betty was a wonderful cook and was frequently known for preparing meals for family and friends. Betty also enjoyed sitting around a toasty fire and shopping at local thrift stores. Most importantly, Betty was loving, caring, protective and nurturing. She cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Betty was a fan of the University of Tennessee athletics, the Atlanta Braves, Franklin County baseball, softball, cheerleading, soccer and basketball, Sewanee Baseball and any other sport being played by someone she loved. In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Smith; and children, Holly Rochelle Smith, and Patrick Shae Smith. Betty is survived by her children, Chris (Misti) Smith, Nick Smith, Sloane Smith; grandchildren, Holly Layne, Shane Smith, Leah Smith, Willa Walls; great-grandchildren, Jayda Solomon and Connor Solomon; sister, Nancy (Jimmy) Cole; and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024, from 11am-2pm at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at 2pm on November 15, 2024, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home.
