Betty Jean Reding, age 84, of Muscle Shoals, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015. Visitation will be today in the atrium of the First United Methodist Church of Florence from noon until 2 p.m. Services will follow in the church sanctuary at 2 p.m. with Reverend Charles Bolin, Reverend Jim Webster, and Reverend Robert Sparkman officiating. Burial will be at Colbert Memorial Gardens in Tuscumbia.
Mrs. Reding was a graduate of Colbert County High School, a member of First United Methodist Church of Florence and the Ferguson Sunday School class. She was a loving mother and devoted pastor’s wife.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley and Minnie Bell Sharpton, brother, Billy R. Sharpton, and nephew, Jeff Sharpton.
Betty is survived by her husband of 55 years, Reverend Billy J. Reding; three sons, Jim Reding (Paula), Steve Reding (Pam), and Barry Reding (Michelle); grandchildren, Wes Reding (Jennifer), Jessy Reding, April Vaden (Will), Stephanie Reding, Chris Reding, Josh Reding, Bryant Reding, Justin Blanchard, and Heath Blanchard; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Darby Reding; sister-in-law, Carolyn Pennington (Ray); and nieces and nephews, Mike Sharpton, Vickie Wenke, Rhonda Hughes, and Connie Watkins.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Lyman Mitchell and Dr. Bryan Cole, Hospice of the Tennessee Valley, and Martha Norton for their loving care.
