Betty Jean King Profile Photo Betty Jean King, of Crane Hill, Alabama, passed away on Monday morning, August 7, 2023, at the age of 76. Ms. King was born in Guntersville, Alabama, on February 7, 1947, to Henry Joseph Cowen and Generbell Lee Cannady.

Ms. King worked as a waitress for many years, primarily at Gus’s Hotdogs in Birmingham, but also at Busy Bee Café in Cullman. Betty enjoyed thrifting, and she loved a good yard sale. She was an animal lover, but her grandchildren were her source of joy. Ms. King spoiled her grandchildren and enjoyed their company. Betty enjoyed a simple life, a cigarette, and a beer. She was loved dearly, and she will be missed greatly.

Ms. King is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon King; son, Edward Wayne Moody; daughter, Linda Moody Stevens; sisters, Peggy Yount and Sherrie Kid McKissick; and grandson, Clyde Wilson – lovingly called “Peanut” by Betty.

Those surviving Ms. Betty include her grandchildren, Sherry Cruz, Marcus McLemore, Jr., James Stevens, Jr.; and nieces, Tina Turney and Theresa Sisk.

Funeral services for Betty are 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 9, 2023, in the Holly Pond Funeral Home Chapel. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday from 12 noon until services begin at 2 p.m. Burial will follow services in Pine Grove Cemetery with Marcus McLemore Jr., James Stevens, Jr., John Ritchie, Marcus McLemore, Sr., Ryan Thomas, and Manuel Cruz serving as pallbearers.
