Betty Jean Dowdy Murphy, 83, of Florence, passed away January 5, 2016 at ECM Hospital. She was a member of Chisholm Hills Church of Christ, and a volunteer at ECM Hospital.
Visitation will be Friday, January 8, 2016 from 12–2 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.
Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her husband, James Cecil Murphy; son, James Michael Murphy; and parents, Turner and Lucille Dowdy.
She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Jean Hall; brothers, Charles (Gretchen) and Jimmy Dowdy (Lynn); grandchildren, Ann Murphy Palmer (Brent), Shawn Michael Murphy, Emily Nicole Underwood, and Stacy Marie Vinson (Zach); great-grandchildren, Payton Michael and Mackenzie Ann Palmer, Landon Michael Murphy, and Brycen Dwayne Vinson.
Active pallbearers will include: David Dowdy, Dalton Dowdy, Greg Hart, Ricky Irons, Keith Irons, Patrick Jones, and Mason Jones.
Brent Palmer, Shawn Murphy, Zach Vinson, Payton Palmer, and her nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Special thanks to her caregivers, Wynella Rice, Wanda Shanes, Sandy Volentine, Lisa Casey, Helen Austin, and Dr. Danny McFall.
