Betty Jane Hale Thomas completed her earthly walk on Friday, January 26, 2024.
She was born on April 24, 1942 to George Washington Hale and Bessie Lucille Hillis Hale. She was raised in the New Market and Hazel Green area, and graduated from Hazel Green High School in 1960. She married the love of her life, Don Ray Thomas, Sr. on March 17, 1961.
Granny, as she was called by most everyone, loved gardening. She had beautiful flower beds and a huge vegetable garden every year. She spent a lot of time canning and freezing all the goodies so that we could all enjoy fresh from the garden vegetables all year long. But her true passion was sewing. She made clothes for the grandkids, dolls & doll clothes, and crafts for craft shows, but she especially enjoyed embroidery and quilting. She has made many beautiful quilts from family and friends to be cherished forever.
In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband, Don Ray Thomas, Sr.; and brother, Benny Sutton Hale.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Don Ray, Jr. (Kenethia), and Steve (Jennifer); her grandchildren, Joshua Thomas, Adam Thomas (Paige), and Stephanie Cravens (Tyler); great-grandchildren, Nova & Ryker Thomas, and Raelyn & Acller Cravens; sisters, Kathleen Pierce and Alma Sanders (Charles); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Thank you so very much to the entire staff of Limestone Nursing and Rehab for all the phenomenal care over the last several years. We are forever grateful.
There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, January 30, at Huntsville Memory Gardens, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Jeremy Mitchell will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Wells Clayton Whitworth Memorial Foundation (www.wcwmf.com), or your favorite charity.
