Funeral service for Betty Holmes Depreast, 85, will be Thursday. November 17, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Peck Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Campbell and Rev. Jeff Griffis officiating. Visitation will be at Peck Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 16, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Betty died peacefully at Decatur-Morgan Hospital on Sunday, November 13, 2022. She was born in Morgan County, Alabama, on September 2, 1937 to Coleman and Joyce Holmes. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. In her earlier years, Betty, along with her sister, Gayle Terry, was the co-owner of The Children’s Shop in Hartselle. She also worked for several years at The Little Red Schoolhouse. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and her two grandchildren, James and Laura, were the light of her life. Before her health began to decline, Betty enjoyed gardening and traveling with her husband, and was involved in many church activities.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Louis Depreast, two daughters, Cindy Depreast and Beth Newman (Jim), two grandchildren, James Newman and Laura Newman, two sisters, Gayle Terry and Jane Harrison (Frank), and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Naveen Lobo and Dr. Mitchell Schuster, along with the staff members of both offices, for their compassionate care.
