Betty Ellen Thurston, age 76, of Dora passed away June 8, 2024. A funeral service will be held at 2pm Wednesday, June 12, 2024, in the chapel of New Horizon Funeral Home. Burial will follow in New Canaan Cemetery in Empire. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 pm at the funeral home. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Fletcher Swindle and Ernestine McCollough, two brothers Jerry Swindle, Kevin Swindle, her husband Bill Thurston and niece Jeri Kay Swindle.
She is survived by her son Karey (Renee) Norris, daughter Candy (Brian) Blackmon, grandchildren Dylon (Livie) Blackmon, Bailey (Austin) Boyd, Cooper Norris, sister Terri Elliott, special friend Perry Pendley and a host of other family and friends.,
Betty was a member of the Eastern Wranglers Square Dance group in Fultondale, she loved to travel with friends and family and especially loved her grandchildren.
