Betty Dean McDonald, 87, passed away Dec. 19 in Huntsville, Alabama. She was born Feb. 29, 1929, in Florence, Alabama.
Family visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m., Thursday, at Elkins Funeral Home in Florence, with a graveside service following at 11 a.m. at Tri-Cities Memorial Garden. Dr. Steve Pearson will be officiating.
She was preceded in death by her parents, L.D. and Carrie Staggs, and siblings Reba Pigg, Geneva Brown, L.D. Staggs, Billy Staggs, and Jack Staggs. She is survived by one brother, Tim Staggs; daughter, Connie Thompson and her husband, Tommy; granddaughter, Carrie David; and great-granddaughter, Lauren David.
She grew up in the Sweetwater area of Florence and was a 1947 graduate of Coffee High School. She was a military wife who lived in California, Florida, Virginia, South Carolina, and Morocco. She was a long-time member of Freewill Baptist Church. She lived her last years at Valley View Nursing Home in Madison, Alabama.
