Betty Cox Morrison

Betty Cox Morrison of Nashville, born on February 25, 1936, in Pulaski, TN, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Betty was the daughter of the late Parmenas and Lounette Jackson Cox.

Betty is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 68 years, Matthew Clifton Morrison, beloved son and daughter-in-law Matt and Jan Morrison, adored grandsons, John and Cole Morrison, sister, Lydia Lee Cox, brother, James T. “Jimmy” (Donna) Cox, nephews JB (Nancy) and Lyman (Kim) Cox, and niece Suzanne (Tate) Thigpen. Additional survivors include great-nephew Ben Cox, great-nieces Julia, Savannah, and Jordan Cox, and Kathleen Thigpen, many special family members, and dear friends. Betty is also predeceased by her brother-in-law, Roger D. Fish.

Betty followed Cox family tradition and pursued a career in banking from the early age of 16. She graduated from Giles County High School, attended David Lipscomb University, and graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Banking. Her exemplary career took her from bookkeeper, teller, public relations and marketing managers, and branch manager, all the way to Senior Vice President. She was the recipient of the Chairman’s Award, Boss of the Year Award, and was an active member of the National Association of Bank Women, American Business Women’s Association, Chamber of Commerce, and the March of Dimes.

Betty was a Godly woman and faithful member of Hillsboro Church of Christ. Her kindness and love toward her family and friends were immeasurable. She delighted in the lives of her grandsons, who brought her great joy. An enthusiast of college sports and the NFL, Betty followed the careers of individual athletes and was a loyal University of Tennessee fan.

The family is grateful for the many acts of kindness and support during this difficult time. Her family extends special thanks to the medical staff at Ascension St. Thomas West Medical ICU and NHC Place.

The family will receive friends on October 28, 2024, from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. at Hillsboro Church of Christ, followed by a Celebration of Life Service. The private burial will be held at Oxford Cemetery, the Cox family cemetery in Minor Hill, TN.
