The life of Betty “Alene” Mitchell
Ms. Alene was born in Lawrence County on October 12, 1929, to Mr. Dave Gillispi and Lula McNut Mitchell and was a lifetime resident of Decatur. Ms. Mitchell was known to her family and friends as a loving daughter, mother, wife, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother as well as a great-great-great-grandmother. She was a friend to all who knew her. She had a passion for traveling and adventure. She was a woman of elegance and class. Ms. Alene loved to make people laugh, that was unless you got on her bad side, then boy were you in some trouble. Alene worked all her life as a waitress. Ms. Mitchell was a hardworking, independent and well respected woman. Alene will be loved and missed by the many lives she touched in her lifetime. Ms. Mitchell is preceded in death with her only son, Mr. Billy Jack McClure and her parents, Lula McNut Mitchell and Mr. Dave Gillespi.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Angela McClure, Diane Strickland; one grandson, Billy Dewayne; three great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild. She is survived by many brothers, sisters and cousins.
