Ms. Betty A. Greer Carter, age 93 of Cowan, died peacefully at her residence on July 22, 2024. Born in Franklin County on April 14, 1931, she was a life-long resident of Cowan and member of the Cowan Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, neighbors, and cats, as well as traveling to Florida, working outside, and UT football. She is preceded in death by her parents, William F. Greer and Leah Williams Greer; husband, J. Shelton Carter; brother, William “Bill” Greer; and sister, Lurene Greer. Betty is survived by her son Johnny F. Carter and his wife, Laura of McMinnville; grandchildren, Andrew and his wife, Trista Carter of Chattanooga, and Caroline Cantrell and her husband Tyler of Smithville; five great-grandchildren, Emberly Carter, Ethan Carter, Carter Cantrell, Parker Cantrell, and Reese Cantrell; and special friend and caretaker, Maribeth Brock. A special thank you to Compassus Hospice. As per her request, she will be cremated and wished no services. Interment will be held at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
