Bettie Jane Moretz Jordan Our mother, Bettie Jane Moretz Jordan was born in Independence, Virginia on June 10, 1946. She was born in the living room of the family’s home that had been built by her father. Although she was the baby of seven, she grew up with only one sister and one brother. When she was six years old, her family sold their farm and moved to Churchville, Maryland. Our mother graduated from Bel Air High school in 1964 with an emphasis in business. In October 1964, she became the Executive Assistant for the Chief of Research Toxicology at the Chemical Biological Defense Center of the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. She worked there 11 years before becoming a stay at home mom. In 1976, our father’s work moved the family south to Gonzales, Louisiana for one year and then onto Chattanooga, Tennessee for the next 3 1/2 years before settling in Scottsboro, Alabama in December of 1980. In 1983, our mother went back to work for the Department of Defense, at Redstone Arsenal as Division Secretary and later worked as a Computer Programmer until she retired in October 2003, after 30+ years of DOD service.
During her life, our mother enjoyed raising her two children, volunteering at their schools, playing card games, attending church regularly, teaching Sunday School, attending Bible study, singing in the church choir, visiting with others and being an Elder of our church. Our mother loved her family immensely and felt abundantly blessed. Over the years, mama expressed how grateful she was and how God blessed her with the love of her family and the joy of being married to the love of her life for over 42 years.

Our mother was proceeded in death by her parents Murray Rudolph Moretz and Mattie Virginia Anders, her sisters: Mildred Joyce Moretz, Goldie Marie Moretz, Gladys Ruth Moretz, and Bonnie Jean Moretz Witten (Leslie Jones and Pete Witten). Her brothers: Gerald Rudolph Moretz and Harold Lee Moretz (Lorraine Moretz) Her husband and our father: Richard Paul Jordan and her best friends: Asonya Fletcher and Jimmie Coker.
